I have worked in a brick & mortar tax office 6 years, then switched to a remote tax office employer for 4 years.
I opened my own tax office in 2023, while working for the remote employer. This is the fourth season of advertising my tax office, as I will return to the remote employer full-time again for 2026. I have been keeping my service fees low, but there does need to be a small increase due to costs rising. Refer new clients though and be rewarded!
For 2024 filing in 2025, I added on the secure portal for remote clients to be able to upload their documents and e-sign, so no traveling is needed. I am keeping that available for 2025 filing in 2026 as well.
I am limiting tax returns to 1040s and rent/property tax rebates. Meaning no partnerships, corporations, estates or not-for-profits. Self-employment, royalties, K-1s, education credits, dependents, etc are fine! I did become an enrolled agent in 2024 and I plan to increase my comfort with things beyond 1040 returns, but that takes time!
Do not delay reaching out to me if you are interested in having me prepare and file your return this tax season. I will not take on more than I can manage, as I am the only one in the office able to do tax returns. As it gets closer to the deadline, my hours with the remote employer tend to increase. Also, expect an increase in fee if you are waiting until April to come in or to go on extension. Extensions become more of a possibility, as with any tax office.
Keep in mind, extension is only for paperwork - not payment. That is still due by the deadline (or estimate & pay as much as you can to cut down) to avoid penalty & interest.
